Mat Rules
Look after your training partners
Getting a submission is not as important as someone’s well being. Look after yourself by tapping early and keeping you body healthy for more training.
Hygiene
Fingernails and toenails trimmed (we have spare clippers if you forgot yours). Always wear footwear off the mat. No Jewellery. Clear attire. Hair tied back.
Be Respectful
No profanities on the mat. Bow on and off the mat. Do not talk during instruction. Thank your teammates.
Be On Time
Make the effort to be on time. If being late is unavoidable wait at the edge of the mat until the instructor invites you on. Shake the instructors hand and greet your teammates. Phone turned on silent unless absolutely necessary.
On The Mat
No footwear, food, phones or drinks on the mat. Drink bottles can be left at the side of the mat. If you need to leave early talk to your instructor.
Crowded Classes
Higher belts have the right of way when two pairs come into close contact. Watch where you are putting your partners down during throws.
Tap
Tap and give time for your opponent to tap. If you're caught in a submission tap multiple times or say “tap” verbally if unable to physically tap.
Enjoy it
Leave your ego at the door and leave the mat with a smile on your face. BJJ should be a challenge but also fun.
